Meet 3 Shelter Pups Hoping to Start The New Year In Forever Homes

Happy New Year from Seattle Pup Magazine!

We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and a fantastic start to 2024. And in case adopting a dog is one of your New Year’s resolutions, we’ve reached out to our friends at the Seattle Animal Shelter to meet three shelter dogs hoping to kick off the New Year in forever homes!

To help these pups find good families, the shelter has even waived their adoption fees, so Seattle residents will only have to pay the city's $74 pet licensing fee to bring one of these loving dogs home. Read on to meet Jimmy, Maple, and Dakota, three adoptable dogs hoping to start the new year with families of their own.

Jimmy Eats World (aka "Jim Jim")

2.5-year-old mixed breed

Jimmy Eats World, who volunteers affectionately call "Jim Jim," is a happy-go-lucky and intelligent pup, especially when treats are involved. This playful 2-year-old young dog is highly motivated by rewards and enjoys using his nose and working his brain.

And while Jimmy is up for all sorts of adventures--including splashing and playing in swimming pools, which volunteers described as his all-time favorite activity--the 40 lb. rescue dog is also a pro at being present. “Jimmy's motto seems to be ‘live right now,’” said volunteers, who described the affable mixed breed as “all about being himself and embracing the present moment.” In the words of his favorite band, Jimmy believes that “everything will be just fine, and everything will be alright, alright!"

If you’re seeking an enthusiastic buddy to help you accomplish your 2024 goals, Jimmy could be your perfect companion! If you’d like to meet Jimmy, drop by the Seattle Animal Shelter during open hours from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. daily to say hello! (Note: Mondays and Fridays are by appointment only).

Maple

1-year-old Belgian Malinois mix

Meet Maple, a lively 1-year-old Belgian Malinois mix tipping the scales at 55 lbs. This spunky gal is rarely seen without her cherished tennis ball or a snuggly stuffed toy—they're her playful versions of a security blanket! Always on the lookout, whether that means surveilling squirrels or watching birds, Maple’s enthusiasm and zest for life is infectious.

This social pup can also make friends with anyone—even your feline companion! And city sounds? They're just the exciting soundtrack to her life. Maple isn’t just searching for a house; she’s seeking a home where every day is a joyous adventure filled with love, laughter, and endless play.

If you’d like to meet Maple, drop by the Seattle Animal Shelter during open hours from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. daily to say hello! (Note: Mondays and Fridays are by appointment only).

Dakota

Meet Dakota, a 6-year-old dog who shelter workers suspect may be part mermaid! Since arriving at the shelter, this Akita Terrier Mix has visited the beach a couple of times because she absolutely loves the water. Dakota is also a big fan of tummy rubs, plus she's fully house trained and a good leash walker.

A nice volunteer recently took Dakota on a field trip to a big city park—she had the BEST time and was so well-behaved, even in the car. Dakota will be a great SUP buddy or swimming partner!

If you’d like to meet Dakota, drop by the Seattle Animal Shelter during open hours from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. daily to say hello! (Note: Mondays and Fridays are by appointment only).
